30 Extra Leg Drops - WWE Hell in a Cell 2015

hellinacell2015.jpgIt's been a little while, huh? I was sadly out of the country during Night of Champions, so we're just leap frogging that into Hell in a Cell! It's kind of fitting since this is our big finale for Undertaker/Brock Lesnar. So let's see how it went down.

As with every Pay Per View, we're answering the three most important questions in wrestling:

  1. What happened?
  2. What should have happened?
  3. Why should you care?

The Setup: The Hell in a Cell match used to just be a special thing that happened once in a while, now they built a PPV around it. It's basically a big cage match with a roof that usually has some crazy weapons involved.  This year had two matching within the cell, and they were both pretty brutal.

Beer of Choice: Schlafly Pumpkin Ale. It's October, so pumpkin beer is in style.

Alberto Del Rio def John Cena(c) US Championship

  1. Alberto answered Cena's US Open Challenge by teaming with Zeb Colter and relatively handily took Cena down.
  2. Well, Cena was dropping the title regardless, so giving it to Alberto in his big return makes sense.
  3. Alberto coming back is a pretty big deal considering how he parted with the company. Hopefully he brings back the weekly US Open Challenge and helps make the US Championship mean something.

Roman Reigns def Bray Wyatt Hell in a Cell

  1. In our first HiaC match, they Kendo Sticked and Tabled each other a bunch until Reigns hit the harder Kendo stick and speared Wyatt into oblivion.
  2. Essentially this. They need Roman to get a few good wins under his belt before they push him into the WWE title match, but Wyatt's PPV record continues to plumet. They're going to have to get him turned around soon.
  3. Both can now move on from this rivalry, we know where Wyatt is going (more on that later), but what this opens up for Reigns, I'm not sure yet.

The New Day(c) def The Dudley Boyz Tag Team Championship

  1. A Trombone was involved in more of this match than I would have expected, but the biggest play was Big E using it for essentially not reason and the Kofi got the pin to retain.
  2. This should have been a clean win for New Day. I guess that last bit was to keep them ever so slightly on the heel side of things, but there's no reason for him to have used it.
  3. The New Day continues to be awesome, and hopefully Xavier Woods is back soon. I wouldn't mind seeing Bubba Ray move on to his own thing. This reunion tour was cool and all, but come on now.

Charlotte(c) def Nikki Bella Divas Championship

  1. Charlotte withstood a targeted attack by Nikki and was able to lock in the Figure 8 to finish it.
  2. That works.
  3. They put on one of the best matches of the night and told a great story. This can only mean great things for the Women's division and they're clearly setting up a Paige angle in the near future which should be cool

Seth Rollins(c) def Kane(Demon Version) WWE Championship

  1. Rollins hit a Frog Splash and a Pedigree to put the Demon Kane away.
  2. Rollins had to retain.
  3. Rollins is still one of the best things going right now and giving him two clean wins in a row is a great way to help solidify him. And Kane is now out of power, which means he can walk off into the sunset. But kudos to him for being able to do that shit for as long as he has.

Kevin Owens(c) def Ryback Intercontinental Championship

  1. A lackluster Pump up Powerbomb from Owens ended a lackluster match.
  2. They must be on a roll in the writers room because I'm still on board with them.
  3. Hopefully this will lead to some better storylines around the Intercontinental title. That used to be one of the more fun title hunts to watch, so I'd like to see them get back to that. And even though I really want to like Ryback, I'm kind of tired of Ryback.

Brock Lesnar def Undertaker Hell in a Cell

  1. They hit and bled and hit again and bled again and tore everything up and then Brock F-5'd an old ass man onto the bare wood under the ring mats to end it. Then the Wyatt family showed up and beat up the Undertaker some more.
  2. Brock had to win, he was basically the face(read: good guy) coming into this match with the crowd behind him and Undertaker constantly kicking him in the crotch.
  3. It's over! Brock can move on to...well...I don't know what you do with the guy no one can beat. But Undertaker! He gets to...go to Survivor series and fight the Wyatts! That's coolish. Kind of a weird ending, but I guess it worked.

The Verdict: It was an entertaining show. The matches for the most part were fun to watch and we closed out a handful of storylines that should open up some new avenues. Hopefully they take them.
