Best Movie 2009

Winner!

Up
Released by: Disney
Up takes the Best Movie award this year. It was a tough choice between this and Star Trek, Up was just such a perfect film that I couldn't got with anything else. What other movie can make you cry and laugh and still feel like you've had an amazing journey with an old man and a kid with a talking dog. It does a great job of having the plot flow naturally from the point the house takes off through the finish. None of the characters ever do anything that you would question. The whole movie just speaks to the great work the people at Pixar are able to pull off with story telling. And let's not forget the CG. Some of the best I've seen for a movie. The characters on screen all emote well and the environments are always spectacular. But really, I loved this movie, so it wins.
Nominees:
Princess and the Frog
Released by: Disney
A bit of a return to form for Disney with the Princess style of movie. And this one fits up there with the others. A great set of characters and gorgeous 2D animation made this a fun ride.
Star Trek
Released by: Paramount
The only movie on this list I've watched more than twice and could still sit down and watch again. I never really got into Star Trek, but damn. Just a great film. I've never been more excited about Star Trek than I was when I saw this movie.
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
Released by: Paramount
Merely on here because I wanted a fifth nominee. I did not like this movie. The first one was fun for what it was. This one was boring, too long, and borderline racist. I may pass on the third one.
Up
Released by: Disney
Pixar = Amazing. Up has heart, action, and comedy. The quality of the animation is top notch and the characters are great. It's just a damn good movie.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Released by: Fox
The first of what is supposed to be a series of X-Men Origins films, Wolverine is a decent launch off point. There were a few parts that bugged me, and not from a comic nerd point of view, just from a logic point of view. But, it was a fun movie and it was interesting to see this version's origin story.
