Best Game/Comic/Movie That Surprised Me the Most 2009

Winner!

Star Trek
From: Paramount
Star Trek really blew me away in the theaters. Then when it came out on DVD, I watched it something like 4 more times. Each time, it was great. I just went to see it the first time to see what the hype was all about. It really caught me by surprise(see?) with it's great action and a wonderful story to go along with it. So in the end, Star Trek kind of ran away with this one. The main one on the list that truly exceeded any minimal expectations I had.
Nominees:
Batman: Arkham Asylum
From: XBOX360, PS3, PC
I had hopes, and thankfully they were all met. Batman was not only a surprise, but one of the best games of the year(See best Game of the Year section). It's rare when a game like this leaves such an effect on me.
Forza 3
From: XBOX360
I hadn't played a racing game since Gran Turismo 3 came out until this one. After hearing friends and the internet go crazy with how much they like it, I had to jump aboard. I'm sure glad I did. They did enough to appease me, the guy that hates sim racing, and obviously enough to appease you crazy sim racers out there. The online is a blast and the career mode is exactly what I needed out of a racing game. It has been a few weeks since I've put some serious time into it, but I think I need to get back in the drivers seat.
Hulk: Green Hulk/Red Hulk Hardcover
From: Marvel
I got the first few issues of this series when it started, then fell off. Jeph Loeb did some great work over at DC, but his Ultimates and then this seemed like a disappointment. Then I saw this over sized hardcover. This series is just plain fun. It's like popcorn comics. You come in, see hulks beat each other up, then leave happy. Sure, it isn't the best Hulk in recent memory, but it's a fun read.
Star Trek
From: Paramount
Star Trek was always boring to me. I just couldn't get into it at all. Then this movie came out. I love Star Trek now. Yup.
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
From: Nintendo DS
It was on sale at Target, and I'm lucky I got it. I got tired of the familiar Zelda formula. It seems like the game hadn't changed since Ocarina of Time. I like Wind Waker, but didn't finish it. So, when I had a DS gathering dust, I figured I'd check out the new Zelda. Spirit Tracks does enough to change up the old formula that I really liked it. The touch controls got a bit frustrating at times, but I got through. And actually just finished the game yesterday. So yeah, it was good.
